IPA Transcription Tutorial, Model 4335

The IPA Transcription Tutorial option is an innovative program for teaching the International Phonetic Alphabet in a multimedia learning environment. Sound, text, IPA symbols, spectrographic analysis, speech waveform, and selected linguapalatal displays (from Kay's Palatometer) are used to assist teachers and students of linguistics or speech pathology.

The program progresses from simple ear training and usage of the basic IPA characters to more difficult lessons which incorporate the use of diacritics for "close" phonetic transcription. The program uses extensive data resources including two speakers (both phoneticians), the Palatometer Database, and the Phonetic Database which includes examples from many languages.
